How To Charge Trailer Battery with Tow Vehicle Battery
Question:
I have a 19 Suburu Ascent pulling a small camper. In the camper I have 2 Trojan T-105 batteries wired to provide 12v total aH is 225. I have a progressive charger / converter installed in the camper. I occasionally use a 100w solar panel with a built in charge controller while stopped. The vehicle and trailer are connected with a standard 7 prong connection. I would like to rig the suburu to provide a stronger charge from the alternator while driving. What are my options? What is the max amps I can charge with?

The best option to provide an actual charge to the trailer batteries while in tow would be a DC to DC battery charger, the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger part # 331-BCDC1240D is pretty much the best option out there for this. This system will then ensure you have the batteries fully charged each time you get setup to camp.
There is an option of running a battery charge line from the vehicle battery to the to the trailer battery with something like the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit part # RM-156-75 but these are more for holding a charge than they are for actually providing one, they are more for maintenance if you will.
