Weight Distributing Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Jeep Cherokee
Question:
I have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus 4x4 with the 3.2L V6 I am hoping to be able to tow a 3500 lb Boat with Trailer with surge brakes. Can I use a weight distributing hitch to help level out the car and trailer or should I use airbags to accomplish the same thing ? What hitch will I need for the SUV and what weight distributing hitch will I need and if I decide on airbags which model fits my Jeep?

Air bags work best for leveling rear suspension squat caused by cargo carried in the vehicle. For squat caused by a trailer's tongue weight, I'd recommend using a weight distribution hitch. The best place to start is to confirm the fully loaded tongue weight of your boat, which should also include anything stowed in the cargo area of your Cherokee behind the rear axle. I'll link you to an article that explains a few ways of doing this.
You'd choose the needed system based on the trailer's ready to tow tongue weight. Since boat trailers are usually rear heavy, your tongue weight would typically be at 10% of the trailer's weight or a bit less. I'd recommend the Fastway e2, part # FA92-00-0600. This system is rated for 250-600 lbs of tongue weight, which would work perfectly for your 3500 lb boat, and would also providing some sway control. Because boat trailers have a pole, or straight tongue vs an A-frame tongue, you'll also need a pole tongue adapter, part # EQ95-01-5950 and an # A-90 trailer ball.
The etrailer # e73ZR you'd looked at would work fine, but I'd recommend the Curt # C13395 as it's a little easier to install, and I feel that Curt does a better job on the powder coat finish than etrailer does. You'll also need a trailer wiring harness, part # C56406 as well as a 4 to 5 pole adapter like # 20036.
None of our vendors offer an air bag solution for your vehicle. I've linked to some install and demonstration videos for the products I recommended.
