Hitch and Towing Accessory Recommendation for 2016 Mazda CX-5

Question:

My 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring is listed as having a 2000 lb. towing capacity. I am buying a hitch for the purpose of using a bike rack, but its possible that I could tow something else in the future. Should I get the 1 1/4 or the 2? The used bike rack Im getting from a friend is for a 1 1/4, so if I get a 2, what is the cost of getting an adaptor?

Because there are many more 2 inch receiver compatible hitch mounted accessories available, we typically recommend going with the 2 inch receiver if the option is available. The Curt Class III part # C13315 that you'd looked at is actually what I'd recommend. This is a concealed crossbar hitch, so when installed only the receiver tube and safety chain loops will be visible. The remainder of the hitch will be hidden by the bumper.

The reducer which would allow you to use the bike rack is part # HT02. You can see current pricing by clicking the provided link.

If you're planning on towing, you'd also need a trailer wirng harness like # 118563, a ball mount like # 2753 and a trailer ball like # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.

I've linked to installation videos for the hitch and the trailer wiring hanress.
