Hyundai Sonata 2016 Roof Weight Capacity With Thule Wingbar Evo Roof Rack

Question:

Hi Ive been seeing a number of Hyundai Sonata Roof Rack Options I see the Thule Aeroblade Wingbars have a weight capacity of 165 lbs but the kit for the Hyundai Sonata 2016 is listed at 88 lbs I also see that most other kits like the Yakima Kits online and in videos say 165 lbs. Nowhere in my user manual can I find the maximum roof load capacity for the Hyundai Sonata 2016. Would you be able to tell me what it is in your experience because I really like the Thule Option but I dont know why specifically for that car its listed at 88 lbs?

The weight capacity will differ from car to car, but in this case your 2016 Hyundai Sonata is not the limiting factor. Thule has tested this on the 2016 Sonata and has set the limit to 88lbs. The Wingbar Evo Crossbars # TH711420 have a capacity of 220lbs, the Rapid Traverse Feet # TH480R have a capacity of 165lbs with the FitKit # THKIT1818. This is the capacity of the items individually, but when installed Thule recommends keeping your load under 88lbs.

This won't be a huge issue for a large majority of accessories. You could easily get a couple bike racks on the roof like the Thule Prologue XT # TH516XT without going over the capacity of the bars.

One thing you will need to know if you plan on hauling kayaks is how heavy your kayaks are. The average Kayak Weight is 35lbs. So, if your kayak or kayaks are under 35lbs and you're using a carrier like the Yakima JayLow # Y04073 you would be well withint the weight capacity limit.

I've included some of my videos if you would like to learn more about my recommendations!
