Swing Away Bike Rack and Hitch Extender for Truck with Truck Bed Camper

Question:

I want to install a swing away bike rack for the rig mentioned in the subject line to allow access to camper stairs with bikes loaded. Truck has a 2 1/2 in receiver, so it will need an adaptor does the adaptor give added length to the extension of the rack from the hitch?. I need about 2 ft from the bumper to allow bikes to clear the ladder on the camper, maybe a little less. Rack only needs to hold 2 bikes, 1 mtb and 1 road, less than 50 lbs total, and needs to be tray type. I’d appreciate any recommendations you could make. Thanks

Since we can't recommend using two hitch adapters (a hitch extender and a pivot adapter) you'd have to go with a rack that has a pivot featured built into it like the Thule Apex Swing XT part # TH9027XT with a hitch extender like the # C45048 which can be cut down to 2 feet in length like you need and fits a 2.5 inch hitch and provides a 2 inch hitch like what the Apex is designed to fit.
