Recommended Cargo Carrier to Haul Tree Stump Grinder with 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question:

Hello Support, I hope you are well. I recently purchased 13364 Class III Hitch Order 109xxxxxx, I was asked by my neighbor if all the parts are included, I could not tell from the box or the product page. So my first question is are all the parts to install this to by vehicle in the package. My second question is if you could recommend a cargo carrier to haul a Barreto 13hp tree stump grinder I'm looking to rent. I see the wheelchair cargo carriers, but I am not a huge fan of the ramp sticking up like that. Storage of that type of ramp would be cumbersome. Thank you,

Thank you for your order!

Out trailer hitches do typically include all the hardware needed for the installation. However, in your case, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13364 utilizes the existing vehicle hardware to complete the installation, so no additional hardware is required.

To answer your question about the cargo carrier - from my research, the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan is rated for a maximum of 3,500 lbs towing and 350 lbs tongue weight. The Barreto 13 HP tree stump grinder you referenced, according to the manufacturer information I found online, weighs 406 lbs, which alone exceeds the tongue weight capacity of your Grand Caravan, and also the Curt hitch.

If you're able to find a tree stump grinder that weighs significantly less, your best option is going to be with the Flint Hill Goods 29" x 49" Carrier w/ 60" Ramp - 2" Hitch - 500 lbs # FHG69ZR. This cargo carrier is 47" long x 27-1/2" wide x 7" tall (inside dimensions) and although the ramps on all of the cargo carriers that feature them do fold up, the ramp on this one does fold in half, so it doesn't stick up very high. Keep in mind that for storage, the ramp folds flat inside of the carrier anyway, so finding a place to store it should not be a problem.

The Flint Hill Goods cargo carrier is also made out of aluminum so it's going to be considerably more lightweight than traditional steel carriers. The carrier weighs only 77 lbs, so that leaves you with approximately 273 lbs of capacity to be used between your stump grinder and any cargo behind the rear axle of your mini van, like anything in the trunk.

The only other solution is to use a small utility trailer, like the Detail K2 Mighty Multi Utility Trailer - 6' Long - 1,295 lbs part # K2MMT4X6. It weighs only 305 lbs, and holds up to 1,295 lbs. I've attached a review video with more information on this trailer for you at the bottom of the page along with a parts link to my recommendation for the rest of the parts you'll need to complete your towing package.
