How to Determine Correct Replacement Hubs for Boat Trailer
Question:
I have a boat trailer rated at 2000lbs. The current hub set up is 40+ years old an both need to be replaced, one is completely shot and the bearings and all internal parts are missing. The tire is actually rubbing the trailer fender. There are 4 bolts separated by 4 inches. What are the differences in the marine grade 4 and 4 hub sets you offer. I have no experience, but am a quick learner and intend on installing the new hubs myself. I measured the current tire rim at 9 in diameter. Not sure of tires size. Thanks

The differences are all about fit for hubs, and these are very specific to the spindle you have, and I can tell you how to determine the correct replacement hubs.
To start, you need to know the weight rating of your axle; you said the trailer was rated for 2,000 lbs but I'm not sure if you meant that was what the axle was rated for. The most important thing after that is to know what bearings your current hub has.
It sounds like you may have done this already, but you will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. You mentioned one side is shot so hopefully the hub on the other side is not. However, If you are unable to find them, you need to use digital caliper and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.
