How to Determine Which Replacement Hubs for Utility Trailer With 3500 lb Axles
Question:
Good Afternoon, I am now in possession of a 2006 Adam, Dalton dual Dexter axils utility trailer, with single electric brake assemble on the rear axil. I want to replace both the brakes assemblies and drum measuring at 10inch x 2 1/4- I am having diffulculty getting the correct specs for the Idler hub on the front axil. The trailer has 16inch wheels, a 5-4 1/2 lug pattern, with an original part # that looks to be 5F28 , with a 2.58inch diameter center hub yolk, to fits on a tapered spindle. There are no part numbers on the bearings. I would appreciate any help/ correct part numbers, that you may share. Thank You James Mooney

Given the lug pattern and the size of the brake assemblies, you very well likely have a 3500 lb axle.
Since you have a tapered spindle, you most likely have a L68149 inner with an inside diameter of 1.378 and a L44649 outer bearing with an inside diameter of 1.063 inches. You can use a digital caliper to confirm, but I'd almost be willing to bet the farm that's what you have.
If that's the case, for an idler hub, you could use # 84545BX for a standard spindle or # 84545UC1-EZ for an EZ-Lube spindle.
For the brake axle, assuming that the same bearings are used (they should be), use # 84546UC3-EZ for EZ-Lube spindles or # 84546UC3 for a standard spindle. I'd recommend using self-adjusting brake assemblies like the Dexter # 23-468-469.
The hubs and hub/drums include the bearings, races, grease seals, lug nuts and dust covers. The brake assemblies come fully assembled and include the mounting hardware and mud & crud plugs.
