Will a Big Dip Damage a Weight Distribution System Since It Is Designed for Level Towing?
Question:
I just purchased a Reese Strait-Line weight distribution hitch with sway control from you. My driveway has a fairly significant dip in it which naturally forces the truck and trailer into a v shape when driving over it. My question is: will driving through such a dip in the road damage the weight distribution setup or trunion bars since they are, by design, working to keep the truck and trailer level?

Expert Reply:
The Reese Strait-Line weight distribution hitch # RP66084 is designed to keep your vehicle and trailer level, so a big dip could cause damage. I don't believe you will have any issues as long as the bars and hangers don't bottom out. The V shape you referenced does give me pause, so if you are concerned it is best to be cautious and connect the system after you leave the driveway.
