Correct Wiring for the Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector

Question:

I noticed the Atwood 36681 combination detector has one black and two red wires. The power to my current GS 961LP is supplied via 1 red and 1 black wire. Why 2 red wires on the 36681? May I simply tie the 2 red wires on the 36681 to my existing single red supply wire? If so what should be the required size i.e gauge of my existing single red supply wire? Thanks

Attached is a wiring diagram for the Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector # AT36681. You only have to connect the black wire and one red wire, but the second red wire is for backup power which is a good idea just so you know the alarm will work properly. The size of wire used is 18 gauge.

I have also attached a review video that you can check out.
