Dual Receiver Adapter Needed to Flat Tow 2012 Mini Cooper and Haul Bike Rack
Question:
I have a 98 Winnebago Adventurer and flat tow a 2012 Mini Cooper. Winne states 5000 lb tow max with 350 tongue weight. My Mini weighs about 2600 lbs +-. I was looking for a dual receiver to possibly also carry a bike rack and wanted to get advice from someone smarter than me before buying and using! I was looking at Curt Dual Hitch Extender for 2 Trailer Hitches - 8 Extension Item # D-192. Is this a feasible use or can you offer other thoughts? Thank you!

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Curt Dual Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches # D-192 would be a great option, but unfortunately using any kind of extension piece like this causes it to cut the overall weight ratings of your trailer hitch in half. This means that your 1998 Winnebago Adventurer will only be able to handle 2,500 lbs towing and 175 lbs tongue.
Instead of using an extension piece, I recommend going with the Gen-Y # 325-GH-314. This has a bit of a different design and gives you multiple hitch receiver options to mount your bike rack in to allow clearance over your 2012 Mini Cooper. Gen-Y has stated that their product does not reduce the rating of the trailer hitch so you can safely, and confidently, use this option.
