Question:

The best way to pick out a jack is to pick out one that has enough capacity to handle the tongue weight of your trailer. Typically, tongue weight is 10-15 percent of the total weight of the trailer. So, let's say your trailer weighs a total of 10,000 lbs. Most likely you would have a tongue weight of 1,000-1,500 lbs. Typically you don't have to measure first to pick out a trailer as the ability to crank the jack up and down give enough flexibility to allow for the standard trailer heights to be fine.
Without knowing your tongue weight, I think a 2,000 lb jack like the etrailer.com Round Jack part # TJBB-2001-B would work great if you have a pole tongue trailer like a boat trailer. Review video attached. This jack comes with a foot that is welded on, so no need to purchase one separately.
