Recommended Wiring to Flat Tow my 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I want to wire my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara to flat tow behind my motorhome. I like the idea of adding bulbs to the existing tail lights so the Jeeps wiring is isolated. Ive looked at the Blue Ox light kit BX8869 but would prefer to use LEDs. Can I use the Roadmaster RM-152-2 LED bulb and sockets? From what Ive seen on-line the sockets look to be the same and have to be added to the side of the tail light assembly. If possible to use the Roadmaster LEDs, do they require a load equalizer to prevent hyperflashing? I looked at the Blue Ox LED kits but saw reviews that said they were not very bright. Im concerned about adding the incandescent bulb to my tail light assembly due to the heat they generate and how close to the plastic it will be when added through the side of the assembly. Also will the LED be bright enough when added through the side of the tail light?

I have a great option but the Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles part # RM-152-LED is not a confirmed fit for your 2008 Jeep Wrangler JK Sahara edition. It comes down to the inserts being too long and interfering with the standard lights.

I recommend going with the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles part # HM56200 it is the best of both worlds it plugs in between the factory connector so you are not splicing into anything but it also doesn't require you to drill a hole into your tail light housing. I have installed them before when we had no other choice but it is always my last resort.

I have attached a video for you showing the install process.
