Does Hollywood Racks Adapter Bar Have Weight Rating for Holding RadCity E-Bike on Allen Rack

Question:

I have an Allen deluxe 4 bike rack, hitch model. I bought a Radcity ebike that weighs 60 lbs. it is a stepthru so it needs a cross bar adapter. What is the weight capacity for the HRBA Pro?

Adapter bars like the Hollywood Racks # HRBA-PRO actually don't have a weight rating because they can handle the weight of any bike that is compatible with a hanging-style bike rack.

With that being said, your 60 lb RadCity E-Bike is going to be way too heavy for your Allen Deluxe bike rack. Even though that rack has a 140 lb rating, it actually means the 140 lbs need to be distributed between all 4 mounting positions so you're actually looking at 35 lbs per bike. This is even the case with the best hanging bike racks on the market.

For example, the Thule Apex XT # TH9025XT has a weight capacity of 37.5 lbs per bike, and I've never seen a rack with more than that. If your RadCity E-Bike was at maybe 40 lbs you could probably get away with using the Allen bike rack as long as you didn't load more than 3 bikes, but if you mount such a heavy bike on the rack you'll damage the rack and even worse you'll damage the bike.

Because of this I recommend using a platform bike rack that is intended to be used with a heavier E-Bike. If you're looking to spend the least amount of money as possible then the RockyMounts HighNoon FC Solo Bike Rack for 1 Bike # RKY87RR is what you need as it's at the lowest price-point but it can also handle up to 60 lbs of bike.

If you're needing to carry more than 1 bike or you have a fender on your E-Bike then the next best option is the Swagman E-Spec # S94FR. This rack can handle up to 2 bikes weighing in at 70 lbs each and it uses a ratcheting arm that comes down over the step-thru frame. If the frame is deep enough that the hook can't reach it then you can use the adapter bar # HRBA-PRO mentioned above to help stabilize it.
