The transmission cooler I recommend for a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado for heavy towing is a remote mount option, the Derale Atomic-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13950. This cooler comes with everything that you need for installation and it will do an excellent job off cooling the vehicle's transmission fluid therefore helping to prolong life of the transmission and achieve better performance while towing with smoother shifts.

In regards to size, it doesn't really hurt to go larger to an extent but keep in mind this adds more capacity to the system so you will need to account for this.
