Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000 lb Axle With 13 Inch Wheels

Question:

I have an EZ Loader trailer with BT150A oil bath hubs, which are in bad shape. I want traditional greased hubs. I think is the correct replacement kit, all of the measurements match. BT8 spindle, 1” bearings. The only issue I see is this kit says wheel size 8”-12”. I have 13” wheels. I don’t see why that would matter. Thanks.

We do have a solution for you, although the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # 34822545BX does require wheels be only 8" to 12". The reason for that is there is this hub does not have a large enough flange diameter in order to to provide the necessary side-to-side support for a larger 13" wheel, so it can become loose on the hub.

Instead, the hub you need for your 13" wheel is the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # 8-258BTUC1.

This uses the same bearings, races, and grease seal, while also having the same 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern as the initial hub you referenced, except it has a larger 6-1/2" flange diameter so it is compatible with 13" to 15" wheels. For grease I recommend the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease # L54FR and a compatible grease gun like the # 30-800. Then use the Bearing Packer # PTW1218 or # ALL647646.

I have added links to video reviews for you to check out as well, including of the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # 8-258BTUC1.
