So there's one of two things going on here if your Curt 3-Piece Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15511 isn't lining up properly on your 1998 Chevy K3500 pickup. The first possibility, and the most likely, is that the hitch was slightly bent, or "flexed" during shipping. This is unfortunately common but also relatively easily remedied; I have added a link to a help article entitled "My Trailer Hitch Doesn't Fit" for you to check out which has solutions.
The other possibility is that you have the wrong hitch, as this hitch is only designed to fit if your '98 K3500 is the cab & chassis with a 34" frame. This is more unlikely because you know your truck best, but if for some reason you did get the wrong hitch that's the reason it wouldn't fit. If you had a standard pickup instead you would need one of the following:
- Standard or Step Bumper: Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15325
- 10 Inch Deepdrop Bumper: Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15317
