Wiring adapter for brake controller on 2000 Ford Expedition

Question:

Hi, my 2000 Expedition has a 4-pin trailer wiring plug so I ordered your pt# 30637 Adapter 4 Pole to 6 Pole for my trailer but the additional 2 poles are for the trailer brake. I installed a brake controller but where do I tap into to power those additional 2 poles on the trailer plug? Do you have a wiring adapter and instructions for that? Thanks so much! Brian

You should only need one of the wires on the 6-pole connector to hookup your electric brakes. The blue wire from the brake controller should be ran all the way to the 6-pole trailer connector on the vehicle and the brake circuit on the 6-pole trailer connector and will power the trailer brakes. The black wire on the 6-pole vehicle connector can be ran to the vehicle battery 12-volt power so that the trailer battery can be charged while towing, if needed. On our wiring page (see link below) there is a diagram of how to wire the 6-pole connector. When wiring, the 12-volt (black) and electric brake (blue) wires are sometimes switched so you may need a circuit tester, # PTW2993, to determine how to wire the vehicle end the same as the trailer.
