Weight Distribution/Sway Control Recommendation for Towing Jayco Octane SL161
Question:
Hello, I would like input on which weight distribution \sway control systems you would recommend for a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has a class 1V 4Hitch, rated for 6200 pds and a tongue weight limit of 625 pds. I will tow a Jayco Octane SL161 Toy hauler length 20.5 ft-height 11.4 ft that weighs 4570 pds dry with a tongue weight dry of 650 pds. With the cargo , I estimate that the total weight of the trailer could go up to 5600 with a tongue of higher than 650. First , do you thinks that this Jeep Grand Cherokee is not suited to tow that trailer? and secondly which Weight distribution/sway control units would you recommend. Thank you

I looked up the towing capacity of your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and found that it could have a capacity of between 3,500 and 7,200 lbs based on how it's equipped so most likely you'd be fine to tow your trailer that would weigh up to 5,600 lbs but you might check with a dealer to see what your specific capacity is.
So for a weight distribution and sway control system that would work really well with a loaded tongue weight of 650 lbs I would highly recommend the Strait Line part # RP66083 as it has a tongue weight range of 400 to 800 lbs and features the best sway control at preventing sway before it starts as it tries to always force the vehicle into staying in a straight line.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
