Complete Flat Tow Package for 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 4WD

Question:

We have a 2014 Ram Ecodiesel 1500 4wd. What towing system do we need to tow it behind our 1998 National Tradewinds? We have been towing our 2005 Jeep liberty 4wd but want to be able to tow the truck. Is there a tow bar that could be used for both?

Since you're already familiar with flat towing, you know there are a number of parts that are required to safely flat tow a vehicle behind a motorhome. You may be able to share some of them between your two vehicles, but the base plates are custom to each vehicle and the tow bar wiring installation tends to be more involved, so you'll want your Jeep and your Ram to each have their own.

The Demco Excali-Bar II Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511013 is the tow bar I recommend using for a few reasons. It has the highest capacity (10,500 lbs) of any of our tow bars, so it will work for your Jeep as well as your truck. The Excali-Bar will connect directly to Demco base plates, like the # DM9517335, confirmed to fit your 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, but depending on which brand of base plates are on your Jeep, it can be easily adapted to work with:

Blue Ox base plates via adapter # DM9523041
Duncan base plates via adapter # DM9523017
Reese Tow Champ and Valley Industries via adapter # DM9523019
Roadmaster Crossbar-Style (XL, EZ, EZ2, and EZ4 series) via adapter # DM9523001
Roadmaster Direct-Connect (EZ5, MS, MX series) via adapter # DM9523032

The adjustable head on the Excali-Bar offers a 3 inch rise/drop in addition to the 1-1/2 inch rise built into the shank, so chances are you won't need to purchase a high/low adapter separately. Safety cables are included as well, so that only leaves two components - tow bar wiring, for which I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267, and a supplemental braking system, like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR along with the # RM-9332 which is portable, so you can easily transfer it between your two vehicles. It's also proportional so it will activate the brakes on the towed vehicle at the same time and with the same intensity as those in your motorhome.
