Why Does the Curt Powered Taillight Converter Have a Wire that Runs to the Battery
Question:
I have a 2010 Ford Edge. I already have the harness and finally getting around to doing the install but I dont get the idea behind the battery wire. What purpose does the battery wire actually serve? If the car is running and the brake lights come on or turn signals are used why would this need any additional power? Please let me know if I should return this unopened and get something different or if the battery wire really isnt required then I will use it.

The reason the Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # C56329 has a power wire is to protect the delicate tail light wiring circuits of your vehicle from being overloaded. The Curt Trailer Harness # C56329 that you referenced uses your tail light circuits as signal wires and then draws the power to illuminate the tail lights of your trailer directly from your vehicle battery through the battery wire of the box.
I attached installation instructions, an installation video and an FAQ on routing power wire for you to check out also.
