Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2007 Toyota Tundra with Factory 4-Way
Question:
I have a 2007 Tundra that currently has a 4-wire plug on the hitch for basic trailer lighting. I am planning on purchasing a large trailer with electric brakes. I understand installing the brake controller and the adapter harness. At the rear of the truck, I understand I need to convert to a 7-blade connection and I could do this with hopkins HM11143395, However looking at the factory harness under the rear of the truck near the spare, there are 2 connectors. One of which has no wires running into it. There are only 4 wires running to one harness, and none to the other. I believe there should be a blue wire for the brakes. Any ideas?

It sounds like your 2007 Toyota Tundra came with a factory 4-Way so to add a 7-Way and a brake controller, I recommend using the 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. This kit will add the 7-Way and provide you with all the wiring you need for the brake controller and to make the 7-Way fully functional. I have included some instructional links on installing an ETBC7 for you.
For a brake controller to controll the trailer brakes, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. This is one of our best selling controllers because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation details for it as well.
Because the truck did not come with a 7-Way you will not be able to use the wiring harness for the brake controller that plugs in under the dash.
