Can Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer Coiled Wire Adapter 7-Way to 5-Way be Used for Flat Towing

Question:

Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer Coiled Wire Adapter 7-Way to 5-Way Flat with Nite-Glow Item # HM47025 Is this plug wired for a break controller? I plan on towing my Jeep Wrangler using magnetic tow lights and tab into my break lights so I know if my breaks are on. I know the procedure to do this and was wondering if this adapter is wired for a break controller. If it is I can use it to send a signal to my break controller plug via the RVs 7 way plug and use a light to warn when Jeeps breaks are on.

The Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer Coiled Wire Adapter 7-Way to 5-Way Flat with Nite-Glow # HM47025 that you referenced is designed to carry the brake, turns, tail, reverse and ground functions, and is typically used for towing a trailer as opposed to a flat towing setup.

I like to recommend the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 for flat towing vehicles because it is reliable and allows you to install everything you need for flat towing.

It sounds like you're trying to use a trailer brake controller to activate the brakes on your Jeep Wrangler. There are some braking systems like the Brake Buddy Select 3 # HM39524 which might need a connection to your RV but it's not normally to a brake controller. If you let me know what braking system you have and what the year of your Wrangler is I can recommend parts for you to use so we can take your Wrangler with you on your camping trip!
