Fifth Wheel Rail Spacing and Available Fifth Wheel Hitch For 1995 Ford F250 and 2006 Chevy Duramax
Question:
I have a 1995 F250 with a set of 5th wheel rails in it and the dimensions on the mounting holes for a 5th wheel plate would be 29 3/4 center to center. I do not have any names on rails and trying to find a hitch that would fit those dimensions. Also would like to be able to take hitch out of this pick up and install rails and hitch in a 2006 Chevy Duromax Short bed. Any help would be great.

The Reese Universal Base Rails, part # RP30035, will have a mounting hole measurement of 22 inches, center to center, from front to back and 29 inches, center to center, from side to side. It will accept the Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley and Husky fifth wheel hitches. I am attaching a photo that will show those dimensions.
If your 1995 Ford F-250 is a short 6-foot bed you will need to use a slider fifth wheel hitch that will give you an extra 10 to 12 inches in travel towards the tailgate to help the front of your fifth wheel clear the cab of your truck on tight turns.
If you have an 8-foot bed on your Ford F-250 you can use either a slider fifth wheel hitch or a fixed fifth wheel hitch. The slider hitch would need to be locked in the fixed position on a long bed truck.
Since it sounds like you are wanting to use the same fifth wheel hitch on your Ford F-250 and your 2006 Chevrolet Silverado Duramax Short Bed I would recommend to purchase a slider hitch. The slider hitch is needed for the short 6-1/2 foot bed on your Silverado Duramax and will work on your Ford F-250 if it is either a short or long bed truck. If it is a long bed you will want to lock it into the fixed position.
I am including a link to the different sizes and types of slider fifth wheel hitches for your vehicles.
Regarding the base rails for your Chevrolet Duramax, you can also use the # RP30035 universal rails for that vehicle, but I would recommend to look at the Reese Custom Installation Kit, part # RP50064-58. The custom rails will use vehicle specific mounting brackets that mount to existing holes in your vehicles frame. That will cut the installation time in half when compared to the universal installation kit.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on fifth wheel information.
