Suspension Enhancement Recommendation to Eliminate Rear Sag in 2004 Chevy Silverado When Towing

Question:

I have a 2004 Chevy 1500 LD Extended Cab, I pull a horse trailer frequently and occasionally a 5th wheel camper. The camper weighs #7300lbs and has a tongue weight of #1100lbs.. The truck handles the horse trailer with no problem, however the 5th wheel swats the rear bumper down 5 inches. I have been researching different rear suspension enhancement equipment and would like your advice for a solution to better support the rear when pulling the camper. Thanks

I'd recommend going with the Timbren Aeon spring suspension system, part # TGMRCK15S. These replace the factory jounce bumpers. The springs only come into play when the rear suspension is compressed, so they won't change the ride when you're not towing. The springs get progressively stiffer as more weight is added, and the system is compatible with all in-bed hitch set-ups unlike air bag systems. Also unlike air bag systems, there's no need to worry about leaky air bars or lines. Because you only tow the camper occasionally, this would be the perfect solution for you.

I've linked you to a video that'll walk you through the simple installation process.
