Recommended Trailer Connector For a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

How do I add a trailer connector to my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

We have just what you need, but we will need to look at this two ways. One if you already have a towing prep package and one if you don't. Let's start by figuring that out. I have included a picture showing what the towing prep package connector looks like. It is located at the rear of the vehicle just under the bumper pretty close to the middle but favoring the drivers side slightly. If this is present you simply need Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 7-Way and 4-Pole Flat Connectors part # C55774 and part # C57202 to attach it to the cross tube of your hitch. Once installed you need to go to any authorized jeep dealer and they can re-flash the computer to activate the wiring harness for you. There is generally a small fee for that service since the vehicle didn't come with an active tow package.
If that connector is not present we can go a different route. If you require a standard 4-pole connection I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118727. This custom fit harness will plug directly into your factory connectors behind your taillights and eliminates the need to cut or splice your factory wiring harness. It provides tail lights, right and left turn signals as well as brake lights. Tekonsha has proved itself as the most reliable wiring harness on the market it is my go to any time I'm doing an installation for one of my customers.
If you also need a fully functional 7-way connector which has the 4-way functions plus 12V power, trailer brakes and reverse signal you will want to add part # ETBC7 this kit will allow you to make the connections you need for those additional functions and will leave you with both a functional 4-way and 7-way for use on multiple trailers. You will also need part # 57202 just like above to attach your vehicle plug to the hitch cross tube. The good news here is that this method will not require the visit to the dealership for programming!
