According to my research, all 2016 Kia Rio/Rio5 models come with a 4 cylinder 1.6L engine, for which the correct Kat's Engine Block Heater is # KH11812 and extension cord # KH28812.
If that is what you have, then the engine block core hole is located on the right rear (in relation to the driver's seat), as shown in the attached diagram.
To install:
1) Locate cartridge hole on the engine block, as specified above.
2) Clean cartridge hole of all debris. Use compressed air if necessary.
3) Coat core hole and cartridge heater body (do not coat terminals) with NSCG silicone grease G-624.
3) Attach cord # KH28812 to heater # KH11812.
4) Install heater into the cavity of your engine block. Rotate the clip on the cord to the proper position to secure the heater and cord to the engine block and heater.
5) Route the cord through the grill, using cable ties to prevent the cord from getting in contact with any hot or moving parts.
It is not necessary to remove the frost plug or drain the coolant.
