Can 2018 Toyota Tundra with 5-1/2 ft Bed Tow a Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

Hello, I have a 2018 Toyota Tundra Limited, 4x4, 5.7L V8, with a short 5 1/2foot bed. Im interested in purchasing a 5th wheel trailer but need to ensure I can install the appropriate hitch. Im looking at smaller 5th wheel trailers that weigh between 6,000-8,000#. I understand that I may need a slider hitch because of my truck? Im very interested in the Andersen Ultimate Hitch that connects to standard rails but Im not sure it will work with my shorter bed. Can you recommend some hitch options that will work well for my truck and explain some of their advantages and disadvantages? Thanks

Since your truck bed is shorter than 6 feet in length a standard slider hitch still wouldn't give you enough turning clearance but we do have one option that would give you enough clearance as it slides back 22-1/2 inches instead of the normal distance which is around 10-12 inches. For that you'd want the Demco Hijacker AutoSlide part # DM8550040 which actually slides back automatically as you make tight turns to give you the needed clearance without requiring you to get out and manually operate sliding mechanism. This is really your only option but it's a really great option so you'll be really happy with it.

For a rail kit you'd then want the part # DM8552020-71 which has been confirmed as a fit for your truck too! With this setup you'd easily be able to tow a trailer with the weights you mentioned.
