Installation of Curt T-Connector on 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

Question:

Hi folks! Lots and lots of information here, like your own WWW! Not always easy to find just the right stuff to answer my questions, but Im working on it. I purchased a C56434 wiring kit for my 2019 Rav4 Hybrid what is the difference between that and the 118801? The video for that shows how to take off some of the trickier panels on the car, which I REALLY appreciate!! That is often the most difficult part of the job, and I broke one of the plastic fasteners top of the passenger side panel I hope I can replace it or find a way to affix the panel for the life of the vehicle. Can I connect my power to the battery on the passenger side in the rear cargo area? And I connect to the NEGATIVE side of the battery? It looks like there are a couple of plastic plugs in the metal panel under the spare tire: can either of these be popped out to allow for running the 4-wire connector for the trailer to so I can have a more permanent wiring installation? I also purchased a bracket to mount the 4-pole connector to the hitch bar with, which will be pretty useless if I have to run the cable out of the lift-gate each time I use it. Thanks in advance for your continued patience and support which is the #1 reason I came right back to you for this purchase after having bought from you for my previous vehicle. Besides price and free delivery, of course!

Thank you for the kind words and the purchase of the Curt T-Connector # C56434 wiring harness for your 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid!

Functionality-wise and install-wise the Curt T-Connector # C56434 and the Tekonsha T-One # 118801 are the same (so you can reference the linked T-One install). The differences between them are that the T-One has higher amp ratings (5 amp stop/turn and 7.5 amp tail) than the T-Connector (3 amp stop/turn and 6 amp tail) and the T-Ones historically have a more reliable converter. With that being said, the Curt wiring aren't terrible options and I believe you will be happy with the T-Connector that you purchased.

Typically the answer is to not connect the power wire for the trailer wiring kit to a 12V power source in or around the trunk but since you have the Hybrid RAV4 you actually want to connect the 12V power source to the battery in your trunk/hatch area. I reached out to my contact at Tekonsha who confirmed this.

You will need to connect the 12V power wire to the positive terminal. I have attached the diagram from the Curt installation instructions to demonstrate this as well as the sample installation video from the T-One kit.
