The Trailer Valet XL # TVXL25 can work on a variety of surfaces. The operating manual states "The Trailer Valet is for use only on paved surfaces or compacted gravel and soils that are free of debris."
The issue is often whether or not it will sink in the ground and that depends on the weight of the trailer and the permeability of the ground. If the compacted dirt is soft like sand or loose soil then it could sink in but lawn dirt and grass like in your yard usually won't be a problem. Using plywood underneath the tires for better traction would help if you haven't tried that yet.
If trailer weight is not distributed evenly that can also cause a trailer to dig in. Per the operating manual "If there is no traction despite being on a solid surface, consider shifting more of the weight of your trailer forward."
Included are some video resources as well to help.
