Recommended Weight Distribution System for 27’ Airstream Travel Trailer

Question:

Can you recommend a WDH setup for my truck and trailer? The trailer is a 27’ Airstream with a GVWR of 7,600 lbs. and a Hitch Weight with LP and Batteries of 791 lbs. per Airstream’s published specs. The TV is a 2017 Toyota Tundra rated for 10,000 lbs. towing capacity, 1,378 lbs. payload capacity, and a max tongue weight of 1,030 lbs. I’m considering the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 15,000 lbs GTW, 1,500 lbs TW part C17501. This model seems to make it easy to remove the tension bars, which is something I anticipate I will need to do as I back the trailer up onto our gravel pad and will need to make quite a few corrective turns to do so. Can you recommend a WDH? Thank you!

Given that a trailer's tongue weight is at the worst case 15% of the trailer's GVWR (assuming that the trailer isn't overloaded), that would place your maximum tongue weight at about 1100 lbs. Although the Curt # C17501 TruTrack weight distribution system would work fine for you, I'd recommend going with the # EQ37120ET from Equal-i-zer. This system is rated for tongue weights up to 1200 lbs, which is perfect for your setup.

Curt makes a fine product, but weight distribution isn't a specialty for Curt. It's not their core business, and not what they focus on. The same couldn't be said for Progress Manufacturing who manufactures the Equal-i-zer product, weight distribution is their primary product and what they focus most of their attention on. Their product quality is outstanding, and they do an excellent job of standing behind their product. The Equal-i-zer product is USA made, and offers a limited lifetime warranty, which is superior to the 10 year warranty offered by Curt.

The 2-5/16 trailer ball is included with the Equal-i-zer system I mentioned. You can see a product demonstration video by clicking the provided video link.
