How To Choose the Correct Axle Hub Face Length When Building a Trailer

Question:

I am building a small utility trailer and will need to order new springs, axle and wheels. Since its a new build, i can make the axle spring measurement whatever i want. But how do i know what my hub face measurement will be? Is there a standard relationship between center spring measurement to hub face measurement?

Generally speaking, the hub face measurements will be around 15" longer than the spring center measurement. That said, this can vary based on multiple different factors such as tire size, offset, etc. The most common options we offer are the Dexter 3,500 Lb Trailer Axle Beams part # 35545I-EZ-89 for a 89" hub face and 74" spring center or part # 7359765-I for a 95" hub face and 80" spring center. Then for leaf springs and hangers, you could go with the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit part # APS4 and the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring part # e57SR. The Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire with 15" White Wheel part # AM32395 would then complete this setup.

I have attached a few links with a list of different options for you to choose from as well.
