Best Trailer Hitch for Bike Rack with Limited Ground Clearance on 2016 VW Jetta
Question:
Hi can I see what this look like when installed on a 2016 VW Jetta? I currently have a curt hitch and am having clearance issues. Only using it to carry a 2 bike rack.

I was able to find some pictures to give you a pretty good idea of what the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7311 looks like after installation and with a bike rack as well.
I reached out to EcoHitch see if I could provide you with the actual ground clearance but I wasn't able to get that information, and since we haven't had the chance to install the hitch in house, the photos are the next best indicator.
As you can see, you will gain significant ground clearance as compared to the Curt # C11474 (or Draw-Tite # 24926 for that matter), which measure right at about 10 inches from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening. The receiver on the EcoHitch sits much higher, not too bar below the bumper reflectors on your Jetta.
An alternative to removing the existing hitch and installing a new one is to use a different bike rack. The Saris SuperClamp EX 2 Bike Rack # SA4025F fits both 1-1/4 and 2 inch hitches and has a 5 inch rise built into its shank that will help lift your rack.

Hi! I realize that it says the EcoHitch 306-X7311 does not fit TDI models, however I have a customer who wants a hidden crossbar design for their TDI. I think the interference may be the DEF tank on the right side. If I can make it work, even if it means removing and reinstalling the tank or other parts, we would both be very satisfied with the result! Thanks for your consideration
