Is Adapter Available to Install Prodigy P3 on 2006 BMW X5 with Factory 7-Way
Question:
Hello, I have a Tekonsha # 90195 brake controller that we currently use in our Jeep Grand Cherokee. We recently purchased a 2006 BMW X5 with factory hitch 7-way. I need a harness for the BMW so that I can use the same controller between the two vehicle. Could you tell me if harness may be available? Thanks,

You might have some wiring provisions under your drivers side dash since you have the OEM 7-Way on your 2006 BMW X5, but I wasn't able to confirm this in any kind of manual online. If the wiring does exist then you'll need another pigtail # 20127 and then Mounting Bracket Kit # TK5906. I also recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2979 to verify the different wiring functions. You will connect the pigtail as listed below:
Blue - 7-Way Output to Trailer
Black - 12V Power
White - Ground
Red - COLD Side of Stop Light Switch (only gets hot when brake pedal is pressed)
If you are unable to find wiring under the dash for a brake controller (you might need to reach out to a BMW dealer) then you can either route your own wiring using 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 or use a different brake controller like the Curt Echo # C51180 which plugs into the 7-Way harness and the braking is adjusted via the app and Bluetooth connection for your Apple or Android device (provided it has the trailer light and 12V power functions active).
I have attached a diagram for brake controller wiring if you choose to hardwire and a review video for the Echo if this is the route you decide to go.
