Can You Install a 4-Way On a Trailer With 7 Wires

I need to replace a damaged 4 pin flat trailer plug. There are 7 wires leading into the Male 4 pin plug. Can I use a standard 4 wire 4 pin plug to replace it?

The standard 4-way trailer connector contains circuits for left stop/brake lights, right stop/brake lights, running lights and a ground. If your trailer/vehicle has combined wiring i.e. brake and turn signals are on the same circuit and you only need the above lights/functions then yes you can install a 4-way trailer connector. If you are replacing a standard 7-way then you will not have any issues, just hook up the wires you need to the correct terminals and cap the others off.

In order to determine the torque rating for the lug nuts on your trailer you will need to know check out the chart I attached that shows all of the torque specs for all the trailer lugs available based on stud size, wheel material and wheel size.
