Can You Carry An E-Bike Without a Hitch On a Lexus RX 350
Question:
I recently purchased an e-bike that weighs about 50 pounds with battery attached to bike. I know I can take battery off bike. I own a 2011 Lexus RX 350 without a hitch. I would like to purchase a bike rack that I can haul the bike with out a hitch. Is that possible. Thank you.

In order to carry an e-bike you must use a trailer hitch and hitch mounted bike rack. I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75676 (2010-2015 Lexus RX 350) which is an easy to install bolt-on, drill/cut free option that has a hidden design as you can see in the attached photo/video so it does not take away from the look of the vehicle. I then recommend you use the RockyMounts MonoRail Solo 1 Bike Platform Rack part # RKY10007 which has a 60 lb weight capacity.
The truck mount bike racks which is what you are referring to are going to max out at about 35 lbs give or take but none will get anywhere near e-bike territory. The issue with using an e-bike on a trunk mounted bike rack has to do with both the strength of the bike rack itself and what the vehicle can physically handle.
I am sure this was more than you were looking to spend but most people do not realize what all it takes to carry such a heavy bike until it comes time to order the bike rack and start to notice weight capacities. The bike rack will actually handle quit a bit of abuse so when you put such a heavy bike on this that then amplifies the abuse which is why you need to go with a sturdier option which also usually translates to cost.
