Should Rear Axle Be Supported When Installing Curt C12289 Hitch On 2006 Chrysler Town and Country

Question:

I have a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country Limited van with stow and go seats. I watched the video and it appeared the Caravan was on a drive on lift, and the weight of the van was on the wheels when the rear spring hangers were unbolted. I am installing on the ground. My question is. Should the rear axle hang unloaded, while shackles are unbolted or should the van weight be on the rear wheels on ramps Thank You

According to the manufacturer's installation instructions, which I have linked for you at the bottom, it is not necessary to support or lift the rear axle of your vehicle before removing the three 10mm bolts that attach the rear spring shackle to the vehicle's frame.

Our in-house installers are lucky to have the convenience of a commercial hydraulic lift. However, custom trailer hitches like the # C12289 you are installing are designed keeping in mind that most customers will be performing the installation at home and on the ground.
