Will Firestone Sport-Rite Air Helper Springs Effect Suspension Travel In 2018 Chevy Colorado

Question:

These mount top and bottom? Will these restrict any travel when not in use? Thinking about purchasing for 2018 Colorado ZR2, when towing Rockwood Geopro 14fk there is enough susp. droop that the trailer leans forward slightly and want to level out the truck/trailer, ..suddenly occured to me if the leaf springs in this truck would want to travel further than the empty air bags, bolted to the frame of the truck as well, may allow when in full flex or driving over a ditch for example? I was pretty sure my trusty 93 ford f250 7.5 liter camper package included these fire stone air bags, swear last time I glanced down there they were mounted only at the bottom on the leaf spring and only contacted the frame rail at top when loaded or full of air, sort of like adj. bumpstops, I assumed these were the same, or mounted similarly, just wanted to be sure I was understanding this prior to purchasing, thx

The Firestone Sport-Rite Air Helper Springs - Tapered Sleeve part # F2587 will mount top and bottom. Your factory bump stops are not attached at the bottom because they are designed to engage when you hit a bump or a ditch like you mention. However, air bags are designed to support the suspension and level out the sag in your truck which actually creates a much more comfortable ride because you are not feeling the the truck engage with the spring like you would with jounce style springs.

The air bags would need to be inflated at least to 10 PSI at all times. You will still have suspension travel when the bags are inflated to 100 PSI (max psi) but the travel will be less when the bags are fully inflated. If you do drive over a pot hole or ditch the air bags will cushion the contact between the axle and the frame so you are not going to have any issues there. The bags are designed so they won't tear when stretched with the suspension.

I recommend a Firestone Air Command I - Analog Gauge w/ Standard-Duty Compressor part # F2158 which allows you to inflate the bags without needing to carry around a bulky compressor or stopping at a convenience station.
