Recommended Electric A-Frame Jack for Grand Design Imagine 2800BH Travel Trailer

Question:

Good morning. I have a Grand Design Imagine 2800BH. Hitch 604LBs. Trailer weight 6200Lbs empty. We have a Blue Ox and the current jack seems slow and we have to almost raise the wheels of our 2013 F-150 Ecoboost off the ground. What upgraded jack would you suggest.

To choose the proper electric trailer jack, you'll want to determine the trailer's tongue weight, which is usually between 10-15 % of it's as-towed weight. You listed the hitch or tongue weight as 604 lbs, but that's with a camper with no gear, propane or water stowed aboard. Your tongue weight is likely a couple of hundred pounds more.

Because the jack you eventually end up with will not only have to lift and support the trailer's tongue weight but will also need to partially lift the rear of the vehicle in order to install or remove the w/d system spring bars, I recommend overkill on the jack's capacity. Using a jack with a greater capacity than needed will mean that the jack won't need to work so hard, and it will therefore last longer than a lower rated jack.

I'd recommend the Stromberg Carlson # SC63VR. The jack has a 4500 lb capacity, more than you'll ever need. The jack features an auto-stop feature that prevents the jack from being over extended or retracted, which is one of the number one causes of jack failure.
