Troubleshooting Weak Trailer Braking After Replacing Axles
Question:
I just replaced the axles on my travel trailer 2- 6000lbs due to uneven tire wear, the brakes worked very well on the old axle but now that I have replaced them and set up the shoes so there is light contact on the drum , my brakes are now weak even at full gain setting on my truck, The axle is installed correctly right on the right side , left on the left. thoughts?

If the brakes are self adjusting I'd recommend finding an area like a parking lot where you can slide the override lever of the controller several times while at a slow speed to allow them to adjust to where they need to be. You should feel them get slightly stronger with every application.
If they are manual adjust I would try tightening them down a couple more clicks so that the drag you feel as you turn the wheel is a little tighter. You might also check to make sure the ground wires of the brake magnets are connected properly as well and that you are using at least 10 gauge wire.
I also attached a link to a video that has adjusting brake assemblies at the 4:25 mark.
