Can 2016 Honda HR-V with Manual Transmission Be Flat Towed Behind Motorhome

Question:

This previous post question matches my setup. I am in the process of purchasing the HR-V but cannot find Hondas approval in their owners manual. In fact, it says it shouldnt be towed by an RV. Can you point me to another source. I dont want to buy the vehicle and then not be able to flat tow. Your help would be appreciated as the Honda dealership has been unable to help me.

On page 320 of the online version of the owner's manual for the 2016 Honda HR-V it states that the manual transmission models can be flat towed behind a motorhome. It then goes on to detail the steps that need to be taken before heading out on a trip.

It does state that the continuously variable transmission models cannot be flat towed.

You might try and ask the dealer for a copy of the manual to verify this. The page number might be slightly off on the hard copy but it should be pretty close. The complete setup that you mentioned will work perfectly for your Honda HR-V. This again includes the following components:

Base Plate Kit - Roadmaster EZ4 # RM-521570-4
Tow Bar - Roadmaster Falcon 2 # RM-520 with Safety Cables # RM-643
Lighting Solution - Roadmaster Diode Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
Fuse Bypass (you do need to pull fuses according to your owner's manual) Fusemaster # RM76511 and # RM76512
Supplemental Braking System - SMI Air Force One # SM99243 if your RV has air brakes or SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 if it has hydraulic brakes

You will also likely need a high-low adapter to keep the tow bar within the "Safety Zone" (3 inches above or below level). I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection.

I have also included short video reviews on these products that you can check out.
