The weight capacity of the Yakima Tube Top bike adapter bar, # Y02531, is determined by the weight capacity of the bike rack you are using.
Most bike racks are limited to 30 or 35 lbs per bike and if you are carrying a 40 pound bike rack on a 2 bike rack that has a capacity of 35 lbs per bike you would need to position the heavier bike closer to the vehicle and make sure that the second bike does not cause you to exceed the capacity of the rack.
According to Yakima, as long as you stay within the capacity of the bike rack, the Tube Top will work. The Tube Top adapter is not designed for use with bikes that have electric motors and batteries on them.
