2017 Wrangler Unlimited 75 Ann Edition Toad for 2016 Dynamax Grand Sport with 7 Pole Round Connector

Question:

A while back I asked for info about what I would need to make my Jeep Wrangler a toad. You recommended the roadmaster tow bar. My question. My RV is a Dynamax Grand Sport, basically a Freightliner M2 truck. It has a trailer plug connection that is not a normal one. see Pics Can I get the tow bar with this plug?

I have a solution for you that will still allow you to use the Roadmaster Nighthawk # RM-676 . Because your Dynamax Grand Sport has this 7 pole round connector, you're going to have to do some wiring work; there isn't a tow bar available that will have a matching 7 pole connector required to connect directly to your RV.

Below you will find a list of parts that you'll need and then below that I will quickly explain how they're all going to work together. I'm also attaching a couple of photos that show the different wiring pin diagrams for the 7 round pole and the 7 way blade connector that you'll want to reference when wiring everything up.

1) Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector with Universal Pigtail Harness - Vehicle End # HM47210
2) Curt Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit w/ 4-Pole Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # C59496

If you plan on using the 7 pole round connector on your RV for other applications you can leave it attached and splice into the wires behind it, or you could just cut it off and re-wire with the Hopkins Vehicle End # HM47210 , which would connect directly to the 7 way that comes installed on the Nighthawk # RM676 . Either way will work, it's just up to you to decide whether or not you'll ever need that 7 pole round connector again.

The wire that won't connect directly from your existing 7 pole to the new 7 way blade RV style connector is the blue brake controller wire; this will be run from your brake controller in the RV back to the blue wire on the 7 way blade connector you're installing. Next, you'll need to add the Modulite kit # 119147KIT in; this is going to allow your turn signals and brake lights to work correctly. You can cut off the 4 way connector at the end, but leave the wiring. Wire this cut off end into your new 7 way blade connector using the wiring diagrams provided below (connect the green to green, yellow to yellow, brown to brown and red to red).

Once you've done that on the Hopkins vehicle end connector, you'll connect the remaining wires on the other side of the converter to the corresponding wires behind your Dynamax 7 pole (you'll have to test each wire individually since the colors may or may not match up- use the wiring diagrams provided). Once you've wired in the Modulite converter, you'll be able to connect the remaining wires, matching them up again using the provided wiring diagrams.

After this is completed, you'll have a working 7 way blade RV style connector on the back of your Dynamax Grand Sport that will allow you to not only flat tow your 2017 Jeep JKU, but any other application that requires a 7 way blade connector.

If you need any additional wiring, you can purchase it by the foot in either 10 gauge # 10-1-1 or 12 gauge # 12-1-1
