How to Determine Best Weight Distribution With Anti-Sway for 2018 Retro 177SE

Question:

We have a 2018 Retro 177SE and am trying to decide what I can put on to control sway and weight. Tongue is 400-600 and trailer gross about 3500 lbs. I looked at the Husky 32215 but wasn’t certain if this was the right fit. Also, I am not sure about the ball size for hitch. Dealer said 2” but others said 2 5/16” . Can you help?

Thanks for that info and there is a pretty simple way to determine the right weight distribution system with anti-sway for your 2018 Retro 177 SE. What you want to do is find the total tongue weight, which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer plus any gear behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle.

Since you mentioned your 2018 Retro 177 SE will have a tongue weight between 400 lbs and 600 lbs all you have to do is add in the weight of any gear you are putting behind the rear axle. The ideal system would be one in which your total tongue weight falls somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.

With your tongue weight I strongly recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0800 because of its 400 lbs - 800 lbs capacity which ensures you will be right in the middle. It is similar to the Husky but it has a wider tongue weight capacity to ensure the best performance.

In regards to the hitch ball, that will simply depend on your trailer's coupler, and whatever size ball it accepts. For your '18 Retro that has a 3,600 lb GVWR that is very likely to be a 2" ball, the 2" Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6080.

This system otherwise comes with everything you need for installation, though it is recommended you use Thin Walled Socket # EQ70-00-4800 to make installing the hitch ball an easier process. I have linked a video review of the Fastway system for you to check out as well.
