Installing BAK MX4 or F1 Tonneau Cover on 2019 Nissan Frontier with Utili-Track Rails

Question:

Hi. Im looking at a BALFlip MX4 or an F1 tonneau cover for a 2019 Nissan Frontier short bed with the Utili Track system installed. I have some concern about installing either the MX4 or F1 with the installed Utili Track. I DO NOT want to use the Utili Track to mount the tonneau cover, or cause any interference with sliding things like the Nissan Bed Extender or their tie-downs along the Utili Track. According to BAK, the mounting instructions are the same for either the MX4 or F1. I found a QandA posting at your web site that said that the Utili Track will not interfere with either the MX4 or the F1, implying that the cover is not mounted in the Utili Track and uses small C-clamps I guess. However, at the BAK web site for these covers they post instructions specifically for the Nissan Frontier with the Utili Track system which shows clamping hardware using the Utili Track. Maybe this is just an option for mounting ??? Can you confirm that : 1 the MX4 and F1 do not require use of the Utili Track for mounting the covers 2 if clamps along the bed rail are used then these do not interfere with sliding things along the Utili Track. Thanks

I reached out to my contact at BAK and she said that on your 2019 Nissan Frontier, both the MX4 # BAK48506 and the F1 BAK72506 Hard Tonneau Covers will actually rest right above the Utili-Track system on the truck, maintaining full function of the system without any interference. One a lot of the Titan model trucks (especially older models) the covers do need to mount to the rails, which limits their function, but that is not the case with most of the newer Titans and your 2019 Frontier.

Between these two options I recommend going with the F1 # BAK72506, as it's just going to provide a more durable setup with 5/8 inch thick fiberglass-reinforced panels (compared to 1/2 inch thick panels on the MX4) that will hold up better over time and offer superior protection against Mother Nature.

I have attached a short video demonstration that you can check out as well.
