Recommended Gooseneck Adapter For Dump Trailer Towed By Short Bed Chevy 2500 With Fifth Wheel Rails

Question:

I have a 2004 Chevy 2500 HD 4x4, 6 1/2foot bed, standard height. Standard rails in the bed for a Curt 5th wheel hitch. I am purchasing a 16foot PJ GN dump trailer, 14K I like the wider stance of the spyder, but was unsure about the height of the hitch, or if I needed the offset like the bent plate. Your advice and recommendations are greatly appreciated. gooseneck adapter for 5th wheel rails

For short bed trucks, an offset goose neck ball is the best option to give additional clearance for the truck and dump trailer to make turns without interference. The height of the Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails # 16085 is about 7-1/2" above the fifth wheel rails.

I recommend the Curt above-bed gooseneck trailer hitch part # 16055 with 3" offset for the 2004 Chevy 2500 because it will give you the offset that you need for clearance. Plus the Curt plate adapter will sit 5" above the rails.

We do recommend to at least have 5"-6" of clearance between the top of the bed rails and the bottom of the trailer overhang. I have attached a diagram that shows general guidelines for clearances required when towing.
