Anti-Rattle That is Easily Removable A Couple Times A Month

Question:

I have a 2011 jeep wrangler and I will be using the anti rattle lock to secure the HE06 hitch extender so my yakima fullswing bike rack can clear the large rear mounted spare tire. My plan is not to leave the hitch extender in place when I am not using an accessory and only install the extender when I use that bike rack and remove the extender immediately after each use. I do not keep my bike rack installed when we are not hauling our bikes. It seems that maybe the 63232 is intended for more permanent/longterm accessory installation. Do I need to unscrew the bolt and completely remove the assembly or does it just slide out when it is unlocked like the item #7683. and finally, if I do have to unscrew the assembly every time, will the threads, nut, bolt and washers withstand the wear and tear. I would be planning on removing and replacing the extender at least a couple times a month. Please feel free to recommend another anti rattle option if necessary that would be better suited for my application. Thank you.

When it is time for your to remove the extender, the Lets Go Aero Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches # 63232 has the internal block and spring that will need to be removed from the shank each time you remove it. It will require to be unscrewed each time but a couple times a month should not affect the threads of the bolt. The only thing I would worry about is losing the spring that goes inside the shank during installation because it's tiny and people lose it a lot.

If I were you, I would use the standard locking pin # C23519 and the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 which is a bit easier to take on and off repeatedly. As long as you have a collar around your hitch receiver for it attach too this is a much easier option.

You also want to keep in mind that the Brophy Hitch Extender # HE06 does cut your tongue weight in half. So however much tongue weight your hitch is rated for would be cut in half with the use of an extender because it creates more leverage on the setup. You want to take into consideration the weight of the 4 bikes and the Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack # Y02465 which weighs 56 lbs itself.
