Converting an M105A Military Trailer Air Over Hydraulic to Electric Over Hydraulic Drum Brakes
Question:
Wondering which 7 way trailer wiring kit you would recommend to go along with the products you recommended. I will be converting the trailer from 24V to 12V for ease of installation and future use. Thanks again!

The first thing you need to do is swap out your actuator and for that I recommend using the USA made HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes # HBA-12 because this company makes very reliable equipment and they receive great reviews from our customers. From my information military trailers like your M105A use larger 1/4" brake lines so you should also need the Fitting # HS43-9035 to make this actuator compatible with your trailer brake lines.
Then all you need is an electric brake controller on your 2003 Hummer H2 to activate the trailer brakes. If you don't already have one then I highly recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR with the Adapter # 3015-S for your application. This brake controller has 2 modes of operation you can use depending on what kind of terrain you are traveling. For highway/road use you want the proportional mode which activates the brakes at the same time and strength as the brake pedal on your Hummer. For off-road or mountainous terrain it has the user-control mode which activates the brakes using a set intensity.
The Tow-Pro Elite also has a unique design in that the only part of it that you need access to is the small control knob. The brains of the unit can be mounted virtually anywhere you have room for it. This brake controller is also made in Australia and is very popular for off-road towing so you know you are getting a great product.
