Safety of Installing Trailer Hitch on 2014 Subaru Impreza Hatchback
Question:
Hello! I was looking to get a hitch installed on my 2014 subaru impreza hatchback just for a small cargo rack to carry some camping equipment. The subaru dealer near me said they would not do it because they drill into the frame and the hitchs often cause rusting or make alot of noise. From your video, it looks like there is already plugs that can be removes and your hitch kit installed. I was wondering how safe this is for my car or if you have seen any issues arise with them? Thank you!!

The Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11286 that you referenced is custom designed for your 2014 Subaru Impreza (as long as it's not the WRX or WRS STi model), which means it will line up to existing holes in the frame rails of the vehicle and bolt right up to them. This eliminates the need for any drilling so you don't need to share the same worries as your local Subaru dealer with regards to modifying the frame.
The Curt hitches in particular use a superior black powder coat finish that offers excellent rust resistance, so you also shouldn't experience corrosion over time. As long as everything is tightened down to specs the hitch isn't going to make noise, either.
This hitch is completely safe to install and doing so won't void any kind of warranties from the vehicle manufacturer. We haven't had any reports of issues from customers regarding this hitch. In fact if you scroll through the customer reviews on the product page you can see that it's overall rating is 4.8 out of 5 stars with over 120 reviews, many of which are "1 year later" comments which speak to the hitch's integrity.
I have included an installation video on your Impreza along with the written instructions that you can use for reference.
If you also still need a cargo carrier I recommend taking a look at the Curt # C18110 that measures 47 inches long, 19 inches wide, and is perfectly compatible with the above hitch on your vehicle.
