Parts Needed to Tow Trailer with 2017 Chrysler Pacifica without Tow Package

Question:

What is the difference between a Pacifica with trailer tow option and a Pacifica without trailer tow option. I have one without and want to know what I would need to make it have trailer tow. Thanks,

In order to tow a trailer with your 2017 Chrysler Pacifica you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball combo. Based on my research the factory tow package can vary a bit depending on what "group" is selected but for the Pacifica it generally consists of a trailer hitch, wiring connector, upgraded alternator, and a heavy-duty radiator. The towing capacity also differs between the two options, as the Pacifica lists a 3,600 pound capacity with the package and a 1,500 pound limit without it. Please note that even when adding the needed components to tow a trailer you will still be limited to this lower number on your Pacifica.

Starting with the trailer hitch I strongly recommend the etrailer.com Class III # e98903 that will line right up to existing holes in the van's frame rails for a no-drill installation, features a unique matte black finish for a rugged appearance that's also resistant to scratching, and is made right here in the USA. I have attached the written installation instructions that you can check out as well.

Then for the wiring harness I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118723 if you have the LX or Touring model and the Curt # C56322 if you have the Limited, Touring L, or Touring L Plus model. Both are custom harnesses that will install by simply plugging into factory ports behind the tail lights and running the hot lead up to the battery. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights.

I have attached a couple installation videos that you can use for reference.

Then when picking out a ball mount and it is important to make sure the trailer remains level when hooked up. I have attached a great article that explains exactly how to choose the best one for your particular setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection. I have also included a couple articles on towing that you might find helpful.
